Fries, Virginia

Where the river meets the trail

Situated along the north bank of the New River in Grayson County, the town of Fries – pronounced “Freeze” — is blessed with a rich cultural heritage, abundant wildlife, breathtaking scenery, and endless recreational opportunities. The 57-mile-long New River Trail State Park begins in downtown Fries, offering year-round access to hiking, biking, and horseback riding on a wide, level trail through unspoiled countryside.

Fries invites visitors to relax and refresh in a safe, family-friendly atmosphere. Although the town has a quiet, timeless feel, modern amenities are never far away. The town sprang to life in 1900 as the home of a major textile mill. The mill closed in 1989, but the town lives on…everchanging and always delightful!
