2012 Grayson County Large Item Solid Waste Collection
**For Town of Fries Residents Only**

June 18, 2012
A truck or dumpster will be placed for residents to bring their items for collection.

*A limit of no more than 10 items per household. (Appliances, Furniture, Mattresses, Couches etc.)
* Small items and trash must be placed in bags and/or disposable containers. No Loose Trash.
* Up to 10 automobile tires may be disposed of. (No truck or tractor tires.)

**Items not acceptable for collection are:
Hazardous materials, land clearing debris, old fence post, wire fencing, satellite dishes, wood, any plywood, sheetrock etc.

Items of Business at the April 3, 2012 Town Council Meeting:

Meeting called to order by Mayor Gary Sumner.

Invocation given by Vice Mayor Nancy Hawks.

The minutes and bills were approved as presented.

Officer Alan Graham of the Grayson County Sheriffs Dept. gave the police report for March.  He reported that officers spent 170.5 hours in the Town and gave a detailed breakdown of their activities.

Council addressed the following during their business session:

1.  Granted Town Manager, Brian Reed, permission to award the low bid to
G. W. Hill Construction for the Roof Replacement Project at the Water Treatment Plant.

 2. Brian Reed  reported that he had received a rezoning request for the Fries Medical Clinic and asked that council appoint a new Planning Committee to consider the request.  New members will be appointed at the next meeting.

3. Set the date for a public hearing to receive public comment on the disposal of surplus property for Tuesday, May 1st at 6:30pm at the Fries Recreation Center Dining Room. 

4.  Kit Marshall of the Fries Beautification Committee invited town organizations and clubs to include their logo on the new welcome sign.  She asked that interested organizations see Tim Hill for the installation of their signs or plaques.

5. Set the date for the public hearing to recieve comment on the proposed golf cart ordinance for Tuesday, May 1st at 6:45pm at the Fries Recreation Center Dining Room. The proposed ordinance will be available for review at the Fries Town Hall.

6.  The Budget Committee set two meeting dates for April.  They are April 12th at 9am and April 26th at 9am in the Fries Town Hall.

7. James Elkins requested that the Mayor and Town Manger look into the removal of an abandoned truck and a large number of used tires at a local business. He also requested they check with VDOT concerning the installation of "No Littering" and "Share the Road" bicycle signs on Main Street.

8. Received two citizens comments concerning the new garbage routes that eliminate garbage pickup on the back alleys between Grayson St. & Main St. and Main St. & Riverview Avenue.

9. Moved the next meeting to the Fries Recreation Center Dining Room due to Town Elections at the FVFD Bingo Hall.

10. Went into closed session citing Virginia Code Section 2.2-3711.7 &
2.2-3711.29.

11. Council came out of closed session with a roll call vote. Back in public session the Mayor read a recommendation from Anderson and Associates concerning second round bids for the Mill site project.  Anderson &Associates recommended that the contract be awarded to Branson Construction in the amount of $124,501.75 for the Base Bid and Additive Items #1 and #2. This course of action will provide the Town with approximately $67,000 in contingency funds for change orders or to cover extra costs associated with difficult field conditions. The recommendation was approved by council.
